Have you ever wished you could instantly go from your
short hair cut to a long, flowing style? – Without waiting the years to grow it
out yourself? That magic of turning short, thin hair into luxurious, long hair
is no longer available only to celebrities. The transformation is not by magic
potion special setting lotion. It is the magic of hair extensions applied by an
expert.
Lynnette Osborn of 5 Elements Salon in Fort Wayne, IN,
demonstrated the difference a few hours can make in a woman’s appearance. I
watched as she turned this woman’s short fine hair into a mane of luxurious
long thick hair.
As you can see, Lynnette’s model – disguised for privacy
- has short fine hair. She shared that her hair has never been long, not
growing fast and too thin to look good with any length. Long hair has been a
dream for her entire life.
To begin the application, Lynnette started in the back,
applying rows of small extensions, each one bonded with a protein tip. She used
a special heated tool to fuse the protein tips to her model’s own hair. She
told me that the entire application is glue free, making it more secure,
non-allergenic and much healthier for the model’s natural hair. “It saves the
integrity of the hair and lasts longer than the glued in strips of extensions.”
These extensions are 100% human hair, so they may be
tinted to match any hair color. These are a perfect match; the result of a
previous client consultation and pre-tinting to achieve the natural highlighted
look. Since they are human hair, it means that they behave like natural hair
and look like the model’s own hair – only better. They can be shampooed and
styled according to her normal routine and can last forever.
Each extension is designed to last from 4 to 6 months but
with monthly upkeep and individual replacement, as needed, she can have her
long thick hair as long as she wants it. On the off chance that any recipient
gets tired of her luxurious thick hair, the extensions can be removed
professionally, using a special solvent.
By watching Lynnette, I found that the creation of
gorgeous hair requires some stamina and patience from both the hairdresser and
the client. This application took about 5 hours to complete, including time out
for a short lunch and stretch break. Lynnette perfected the style by trimming
and shaping the bonded hair to blend with the model’s natural hair resulting in
a finished look that is beautifully seamless.
Update: Four weeks after the application, I contacted
Lynette's model to see how she felt about her extensions. She said that she had
to get used to spending more time on her hair. It requires about 20 minutes
more work in the morning. She added, with a big smile, that she would never go
back. She can't imagine not having her long hair.
