Beauty The Healthy Way With Paraben Free Makeup

By Jerry Morgan

Cosmetics have been used to enhance body features for many years. They have evolved over time to become more complex in structure and purposes. In order to increase the shelf life of their products manufacturers use chemicals such as parabens. Many people are not fans of parabens however, because of their potential negative effects. Paraben free makeup is a great option for those who prefer the organic way of life.

Many of today's cosmetics contain some chemicals that are raising eyebrows around the world. Parabens are included among the many health damaging chemicals that cosmetic makers are using. They use parabens to preserve the product but unfortunately, parabens are linked with ailments such as cancer. Scientists have been able to identify parabens in cancer tumors. Additionally they mimic estrogen and may trigger the growth of cancerous tumors.

There is very little regulation of the cosmetic industry as consumer protection bodies around the world do not consider the levels of chemicals in the products to be harmful. It is therefore up to consumers to make proactive and informed decisions about the products they use. Many consumers have started to create their own cosmetic products using natural ingredients that they source. This can be quite a tedious task though, especially for those who lead busy lives.

Organic makeup has grown in popularity in recent times, thanks to the plethora of information on the internet about the potential dangers of substances such as parabens. Many cosmetic companies have started to delve into all natural makeup products. They are capitalizing on a market that is growing as fast as the anti-paraben movement.

Tea tree oil is one of the natural ingredients sued to replace parabens as preservative in organic cosmetics. This essential oil comes from an Australian plant and has preservative properties. It is also great for cleansing the skin. Experts advise though, that it be used in concentrations of ten percent and less. Tea tree oil is found in both organic and non-organic skin care products.

Some producers of organic makeup use glycerin as a form of preservative. Glycerin is extracted from animal fat and vegetable oil. It is also a byproduct of soap manufacturing. Users should beware though as high concentrations of glycerin on the skin may trigger adverse reactions. The recommended quantity is a maximum of ten percent of the entire content. Most cosmetics use less than one percent though.

Grapefruit seed extract is also used by makeup manufacturers in the creation of healthier or more organic cosmetic products. It is extracted from the seed of the grapefruit and is recommended for use in concentrations of two percent or less. The substance that is extracted from the seeds is merged with another substance, USP glycerin to create grapefruit seed extract. It combats bacteria and microbes and is also an antioxidant.

Wise shoppers who are searching for healthier cosmetics search through the ingredients list of the labels of products. During these searches, not only should they look out for healthier ingredients but they must also ensure that the ingredients will not have negative effects of their skin. In doing so they can identify the products that are safer.
